Harbor Science and Arts Charter School
École primaire publique Saint Lambert
1st grade students from Harbor Science and Arts Charter School in New York City participated in a collaborative art exchange with 6 and 7 year old students from the École primaire publique Saint Lambert after school visual arts program with instructor Blanche Godivier. During two months of weekly sessions, students created videos to introduce themselves to their new friends abroad, made artworks about their cities to share with each other, exchanged messages and artworks in penpal style pairings, and met virtually in a video call. They imagined intergalactic beings, created entire worlds, designed time capsules, and speculated outerspace futures. The American students began learning French with their school’s middle school French teacher, and the French students did a series of alien dance movement exercises. Both schools had culminating exhibitions with work from students in both countries displayed.
